A Legacy of the Papacy
The estate's history is deeply intertwined with the Roman Catholic Church. In the early 14th century, Bertrand de Goth, the Archbishop of Bordeaux, received the vineyard as a gift. He was a visionary who pioneered systematic vine planting to facilitate agricultural work. In 1305, he was elected Pope Clement V, and although he relocated to Avignon, he remained devoted to his Bordeaux estate, which has carried his name for over seven centuries.
