A mature Grand Cru from one of Flagey-Échezeaux's respected domaines, this 1998 bottling shows classic tertiary evolution while retaining vibrant energy. The bouquet opens to dried red cherry, forest floor, mushroom and gentle leather, with hints of cedar and warm spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied and elegant: silky, well-integrated tannins support bright acidity and layered savory flavours that unfold toward a persistent, refined finish. Producer & vineyard notes: Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux, under the stewardship of Charles Lachaux, works small parcels in the Côte de Nuits with attentive vineyard husbandry aimed at low yields and concentrated fruit. Les Rouges sits on characteristic Burgundian limestone soils which give precision and mineral lift to the wines. Winemaking notes: Fruit is hand-harvested, carefully sorted and vinified with gentle extraction to preserve finesse. Elevage in French oak (a measured proportion renewed each vintage) allows structure without overwhelming the delicate aromatic frame. The result is a poised, terroir-driven Grand Cru that balances maturity with lingering freshness.
