Château Lafite Rothschild 2023 is a poised and refined First Growth from Pauillac. Aromas open on layered blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, cedar, pencil lead and subtle floral notes, followed by tobacco, leather and a whisper of smoke. On the palate the wine is concentrated yet elegant: precise acidity keeps it linear while silk-like tannins provide structure and tension. The 2023 was harvested 7–29 September; vinification included careful selection (around 38% of the crop into the Grand Vin) and roughly 18 months ageing in French oak barrels. Winemaker Eric Kohler, under the management of Saskia de Rothschild and the viticultural oversight of Louis Caillard, navigated mildew pressure and summer heat to produce a vintage with freshness, depth and exceptional ageing potential. Best enjoyed after careful cellaring, or decanted for about 90 minutes if drinking young.
