A concentrated and classically structured Saint-Julien from a warm, ripe 2019. The nose opens with layered black cherry and cassis, lifted by violet and cigar-box notes, while hints of liquorice and toasted oak add spice. On the palate the entry is silky and plump, quickly revealing powerful yet polished tannins and a creamy mid-palate. Balanced freshness keeps the wine lively despite its density, and the finish is long with a mineral-salty thread and lingering dark chocolate and tobacco echoes. Produced from parcel-by-parcel vinification with meticulous hand sorting, malolactic co-inoculation and 21 months in oak (around half new), this vintage demonstrates both immediate appeal and serious ageing potential.

Château Lagrange sits entirely within the village of Saint-Julien and manages some 118 hectares of planted red vines on two hills. Soils are classic Médoc — pebble and gravel topsoils over clay-limestone subsoils — and the estate combines traditional Bordeaux techniques with modern cellar precision. The 2019 was hand-harvested plot by plot, with optical sorting and careful selection, fermented in temperature-controlled vats, followed by malolactic completion and 21 months' ageing in barrels with roughly 50% new oak. Today the estate is part of the Suntory group and continues to invest in both vineyard and cellar to emphasize terroir clarity and ageing potential.
