Tasting Note: Remarkably fresh and energetic, this 2016 Ulysses opens with deep boysenberry, wild cherry, rose petal and lavender aromatics, underscored by sage, spruce and a savory, forest-floor thread. On the palate it delivers concentrated dark fruit, an earl‑grey tea-like savory note and a fine-grained, velvety tannin structure that carries into a long, bracing finish. Producer & Vintage Notes: Owned by Christian Moueix, the Ulysses 2016 benefited from a wet, warm winter that set up vigorous canopies, warm late‑September ripening days and a steady maturation. Harvest ran from 14 September to 1 October, producing about 1,300 cases. Winemaking: Matured in oak, the wine shows well-integrated wood and a polished texture; small additions of other components provide savory complexity and lift without overwhelming the primary fruit. Bottled with a traditional cork closure. Vineyard: Planted along Oakville’s bench and an alluvial fan at the foot of the Mayacamas Range, the site sits on deep, gravelly clay loam perfectly suited to producing concentrated, site-expressive fruit. Yields and careful canopy management deliver intense flavor and refined tannins. Cellar Potential: Approachable now with decanting, this vintage will continue to evolve through the 2030s and into the 2040s.

Ulysses Vineyard, located on Oakville’s prized bench and an alluvial fan at the foot of the Mayacamas Range, is owned by Christian Moueix. The estate focuses on low-yield, site-driven lots that emphasize purity and energy. Small production, careful canopy management and attentive oak maturation aim to showcase the vineyard’s gravelly clay loam soils and the region’s warm‑to‑cool diurnal swing.
