2011 Krug Vintage Brut is a majestic, deeply layered Champagne born from a year of unusual weather and crafted “according to the circumstances.” Aromas open to brioche, hazelnut praline, toasted bread and light-roasted coffee, over a core of golden apple, pear and candied citrus peel. On the palate it shows expansive volume and a creamy, fine-bubbled texture balanced by vivid, lemony acidity and a chalky minerality. Notes of spice, almond and a gentle salinity emerge through a long, precise finish. Producer notes: Krug approaches each vintage as a unique story; the House selects parcels that best express the year and ages the final blend for more than a decade in its cellars to achieve depth and harmony. Winemaking notes: Made by the traditional method with extended lees ageing (around ten years in Krug’s cellars before disgorgement), careful blending and a restrained Brut dosage. Bottled under cork, the wine reflects meticulous cellar work—evolutionary autolysis and tertiary layers are evident. Vineyard notes: The 2011 growing season in Champagne was marked by atypical timing and contrasting temperatures. Krug’s selection highlights parcels that retained freshness and aromatic intensity despite the vintage’s challenges, with parcels grown on classic Champagne soils lending chalky tension and saline drive. Serve well-chilled; decant briefly if you want the aromatics to open (about 20 minutes). Excellent with refined shellfish, delicate sushi, goat cheeses or as an elegant celebration wine.
