Mortlach 21 Years Special Release 2020

Soul Hook: A voluptuous Speyside sherry‑finished powerhouse—21 years of concentrated dried fruit, spice and oak.

Why choose it? (Feature -> Benefit):
1) Matured in Pedro Ximénez & Oloroso-seasoned casks -> deep dried-fruit and caramel layers for immediate sipping pleasure.
2) 21 years of ageing at Mortlach -> rounded, muscular body that still shows elegance, great for special moments.
3) Limited Special Release (7,692 bottles) -> collectible rarity and strong investment/occasion value.

Sommelier's Note: On the nose there's an arresting mix of boiled sweets, dried figs and dates edged with cracked pepper and savory, almost meaty notes. The palate is voluptuous—rich sherry, blackstrap caramel, dark spices and firm oak tannins; a hint of licorice and a chili‑tinge leads to a long, drying finish. It drinks like a proud, old Speyside that kept its backbone despite the heavy sherry influence.

Occasions & Pairing Guide: Best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water; open the bottle and let it rest ~10 minutes. Serve in a tulip glass at room temperature during celebratory dinners, intimate after-dinner moments with dark chocolate, or paired with smoked/roasted meats at home gatherings.

Competitive Edge: Compared with mainstream aged releases, this Mortlach offers a more muscular, savory profile and denser sherry character at a relative value to boutique single cask bottlings—ideal for collectors who want depth without boutique premiums.

Winery

Mortlach Distillery, founded in 1823 in the heart of Speyside, is known for a distinctive robust style often described as 'meaty' and deeply sherried in its special releases. Now under Diageo ownership, Mortlach continues traditional floor malting and a focus on long maturation in a variety of cask types—here a mix of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso-seasoned casks—producing concentrated, age-worthy single malts.
