Tasting note: Intensely aromatic on the nose with bright citrus peel top notes over a deep spine of clove, cinnamon, bitter gentian and resinous herbals. The palate is concentrated and assertive—clean bitter core, warming alcohol and a complex spice parade that lingers into a long, dry, slightly medicinal finish. Producer notes: Crafted by Angostura Holdings Limited in Trinidad and Tobago, this iconic aromatic bitters is made from a proprietary blend of botanicals developed over generations and bottled at 44.7% ABV. Winemaking/production notes: Rather than fermentation, the recipe relies on careful maceration and infusion of roots, barks, seeds and citrus oils into a neutral high-strength spirit, followed by resting to marry flavours and gentle filtration. Barrel touch and maturation steps are modest and aimed at integration rather than heavy oak influence. Vineyard/botanical sourcing: Botanicals are sourced from local Caribbean growers for key spice elements and supplemented with selected imported spices to ensure consistency. Small-batch selection and quality control focus on freshness of peels and the balance of bitter roots. Service & use: No decanting required—use sparingly by the dash to lift cocktails, finish sauces or add depth to desserts and savoury dishes.
