Tasting note: At 47% ABV, Monkey 47 is a bold, intricately layered dry gin that opens with a clear juniper spine uplifted by tangy citrus and floral perfumed notes. A background of peppery spice and subtle bitter fruits develops into lingering forest-herb complexity; a surprisingly bright lingonberry thread adds local character and a slight tartness that keeps the profile lively. The mouthfeel is full and racy — concentrated but finely balanced — finishing long and invigorating.

Producer notes: Crafted by Black Forest Distillers, MONKEY 47 is built from 47 handpicked botanicals, many sourced from the Schwarzwald region. The distillers emphasize local ingredients and spring water from their own Black Forest source; lingonberries are singled out as a regional “secret weapon.” Ownership by Pernod Ricard has helped broaden its reach while maintaining artisanal production methods.

Winemaking (distilling) notes: Botanicals are macerated and distilled with meticulous attention to extraction and balance. After distillation, the spirit is matured briefly in traditional earthenware containers to harmonize the flavors — an unusual step that softens and integrates the complex botanical mix without wood influence. The result is an unoaked, aromatic gin with remarkable depth and cocktail versatility.

Vineyard / sourcing notes: Rather than vineyards, the story here is of the Black Forest: damp woodland, wild herbs, and locally foraged botanicals. Seasonal picking, small-batch handling, and soft spring water all contribute to a terroir-driven personality uncommon in most gins.
