The 2016 Chateau Bellefont-Belcier is a stunning wine from the prestigious Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. This wine boasts a deep garnet-purple color and a sexy, floral character. On the nose, it reveals striking freshness with rich, dark flavors of blackberry, plum, and espresso, complemented by notes of violets and licorice. The palate is well-structured with polished tannins, offering a harmonious balance of ripe red berries and a lingering earthiness. The finish is long and mineral-driven, making it a perfect match for grilled lamb, beef stew, mature cheeses, and roasted duck. This wine is crafted from a blend of 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 80% new barrels and 20% one-wine barrels. Decant for 2 hours to fully appreciate its complexity and elegance.

Winery

Created in the late 18th century, the Bellefont-Belcier estate is perfectly situated on Saint-Emilion’s south-facing slopes, neighboring Château Pavie, Château Larcis-Ducasse, and Château Tertre Roteboeuf. The estate was founded by Count Louis-François de Belcier and has undergone major restructuring in 1994. Classified as Grand Cru Classé in 2006, it was acquired by Peter Kwok in 2017. The vineyard spans 13.5 hectares with limestone plateau, south-facing clay-limestone slopes, and plots at the foot of the slopes. The winemaking process involves parcel management, traditional farming, and gentle extraction in temperature-controlled wooden and concrete vats.
