2021 Chateau Clerc Milon
2021 Chateau Clerc Milon
Deep garnet in the glass, this Pauillac opens with a refined bouquet of blackcurrant, ripe cherry and violet, edged by cedar, graphite and a hint of pepper. On the palate it delivers a powerful yet precise attack: concentrated fruit framed by polished, finely woven tannins and lively acidity. Winemaker notes highlight 18 months maturation in oak that adds subtle spice and cedar complexity while preserving primary fruit purity. The grapes were harvested late September to early October from gravel-and-clay-limestone soils shaped by the Gironde estuary; careful sorting and attentive cellar work after a challenging vintage produced healthy, fully ripe berries and a wine with excellent ageing potential. Expect a long, saline-tinged finish with savoury nuances — approachable now after decanting but built to evolve over decades.

Chateau Clerc-Milon, a historic Pauillac estate classified as a 5ème Grand Cru Classé, was acquired in the 20th century and today benefits from meticulous viticulture across its gravel-dominant parcels. The domaine (some 41 hectares) combines traditional Bordeaux cellar practice with careful vineyard work: targeted canopy management, precise sorting at harvest and élevage in oak that typically lasts 18 months. The proximity to the Gironde estuary moderates the climate and helps produce balanced, ripe fruit even in challenging seasons.
