Tasting note

This 2018 Château d'Armailhac shows Pauillac authority: deep garnet colour and an aromatic profile of ripe black fruits—blackberry and cassis—lifted by notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and a subtle minty, peppery spice. With airing the bouquet gains floral and sandalwood nuances alongside graphite and tobacco. The palate is medium–full to full-bodied, with concentrated fruit framed by elegant yet dense tannins and a firm mineral backbone. Oak ageing (18 months, 50% new) gives a polished layer of vanilla and toasted notes without overwhelming the wine's concentration. The finish is long and harmonious, revealing roasted coffee-bean, liquorice and fine bitter chocolate. Best enjoyed after around 60 minutes in the decanter if opening young; will cellar well through the 2030s. Style notes: refined Pauillac structure, pronounced fruit depth and excellent ageing potential.

Winery

Château d'Armailhac is an 1855 Classified Growth of the Mouton estate now owned by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The estate covers around 70 hectares in northern Pauillac across gravelly plateaus and clay-limestone pockets that confer both power and refinement. Vineyard practice favors high-density plantings and careful rootstock selection; vinification combines classic Bordeaux élevage with modern precision. The 2018 received 18 months in barrel with roughly half new oak, reflecting the house style of ripe fruit framed by elegant structure.
