2006 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste

Soul Hook: Classic Pauillac power with velvet polish — age-worthy structure that rewards patience.

Why choose it?
1) Estate pedigree -> A Fifth Growth from Pauillac that balances Old World structure with plush fruit, giving you investment-grade cellar potential and drink-now appeal.
2) Serious winemaking -> Hand-harvested with two selections, long maceration and 18 months in French oak for refined oak integration and ripe concentration.
3) Distinct terroir -> Very deep coarse gravel soils and mature vines (avg. 38 years) deliver mineral drive and focused depth.

Producer & Winemaking Notes: Exclusively hand-picked fruit, two successive selections before and after de-stemming, followed by about three weeks of maceration. Matured for 18 months in French oak; closure by natural cork. The producer describes deep dark red colour, notes of blackcurrant liqueur and an elegant, concentrated mouthfeel with round tannins and a velvet, long finale.

Vineyard Notes: Average vine age ~38 years on very deep coarse gravel — classic Pauillac terroir that brings precision, drainage and minerality.

Sommelier's Note: On the palate the wine shows dense black-fruit core framed by graphite and spice, plush mid-palate texture and an assertive, fine-grained tannic spine. Decant 1–2 hours if serving now; the tannins will soften with time in bottle through 2038. Best paired with grilled T-bone, roasted lamb or a bold cheese board.

Occasions: Works for a special Cantonese-style roast beef dinner, celebratory Western mains at a hotel, or a small cellar tasting with friends — bring it out when you want to show classic Pauillac structure without the stratospheric price.

Competitive Edge: Delivers the focused cassis, mineral precision and ageing potential of top Médoc names but at a markedly more accessible market price — ideal for collectors who want terroir expression without the trophy markup.
