2014 Chateau la Gaffeliere

Soul Hook: A classic Saint-Emilion Grand Cru that balances density with precision — built to age, ready to reward.

Why choose it?
1) Estate pedigree -> Centuries-old family ownership and Grand Cru classification for consistent quality and provenance.
2) Site-driven style -> Limestone/clay soils and careful parcel vinification deliver minerality, structure and depth.
3) Crafted technique -> Hand harvesting, optical sorting, gravity-filled vinification and 18 months ageing for polished tannins and harmony.

Sommelier's Notes: On the palate this 2014 opens with black and red currant layered with cedar, licorice and forest-floor hints. Firm, finely grained tannins frame bright acidity; mid-palate density moves into a long, focused finish with savory balsam and a subtle mushroom note. It sits in the medium–full weight class but keeps tension and youthful grip — elegant rather than ostentatious.

Winemaking & Vineyard: Parcel-by-parcel vinification in stainless steel with gravity filling, pumping-over and punching down. Malolactic partly in tanks and barrels; 18 months ageing with a mix of oak and amphora influence. Vineyard sits on limestone plateau and clay-limestone slopes; integrated farming, leaf removal, green harvest and hand picking ensure ripe, healthy fruit.

Occasion / Pairing: Decant an hour and serve with roast lamb, charred rib-eye or a rich mushroom dish. Ideal for celebratory dinners, family Sunday roasts or pairing with Hong Kong-style braised beef for a elevated comfort meal.

Competitive Edge: Offers the structure and pedigree of top Saint-Emilion Grand Crus but at noticeably better value than the most famous château names — intense, ageworthy and terroir-driven without the premium markup.

Château La Gaffelière is a long-established Saint-Emilion estate, classified among the top growths and owned by the Malet-Roquefort family. The estate farms roughly 22 hectares on limestone plateaus and clay-limestone slopes. Practices include hand harvesting, optical sorting, parcel vinification, gravity filling, and a mix of tank and barrel malolactic fermentation. Wines are aged about 18 months, with both oak and amphora influences to refine tannins and enhance texture.
