Tasting note
1986 Chateau La Tour de Mons comes from a single 58-hectare block on Garonne gravel and limestone-clay soils. The colour is intense and the bouquet unfolds a broad aromatic range — wood and spice layered over ripe dark fruit. On the palate the wine is dense and concentrated, with measured oak influence and a fine tannic frame that gives structure and ageing potential. Production is meticulous: hand-picked fruit, careful sorting, separate stainless-steel fermentations by plot, low-temperature extended maceration for gentle extraction, then racking to French oak for 12 months (about 30% new). Producer notes highlight elegance and distinction — a savory, classic Médoc expression that pairs beautifully with rich red meats and mature cheeses. Given its age, allow a gentle decant (about 30 minutes) to clarify and open the aromatics; watch for sediment when pouring.
