This wine has completely shut down after being in bottle for several years. It still has an impressively saturated ruby/purple color and a nose of sweet berry fruit intermixed with licorice, tapenade, mineral, and herbs. The wine is deep, medium-bodied, with excellent purity and some relatively elevated and rustic tannin in the finish which may not become fully integrated. In any event, this wine needs extended cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018. Last tasted, 3/02.

Tasting note

This 1990 Chateau Marquis de Terme is a classic red wine from the Margaux appellation in France. It has a medium body and is noted for its complex blend of red fruits, tobacco, herb, wet earth, and forest floor characteristics. The wine is well past its best-drinking days, but you can still find some remaining red fruits in its taste. It is recommended to be consumed over the next few years before any additional fruit fades away. The wine has been aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, including 50% of new oak barrels, which adds to its complexity and depth of flavor.
