Tasting Note: The 2005 Chateau Palmer opens with an initially restrained nose that slowly unfurls layers of black cherry, cassis and plum preserves, edged by graphite minerality, candied violet and a tobacco/unsmoked-cigar perfume. On the palate it is concentrated yet poised: medium-to-full-bodied with lavish, velvety tannins, bright supporting acidity and an impressive, lingering finish that carries dark chocolate, licorice and cedar notes. Producer & Vineyard: From a single terroir in the heart of Margaux — some 66 hectares of gravelly soils above the Gironde estuary — the estate blends focus, balance and length as a signature. 2005 was an exceptionally dry vintage, producing small, concentrated berries and low yields that translated into intense, energetic fruit. Winemaking & Ageing: Meticulous daily tastings during fermentation ensured careful extraction to retain freshness and balance. The wine matured for 18 months in oak, culminating in a polished, layered texture.
