Tasting note: Deep, dark colour with an intense bouquet of black and blue fruits — crème de cassis, blackberry and blueberry — underscored by slatey minerality, tobacco and a touch of vanilla and dark chocolate. On the palate it is medium–full-bodied with concentrated fruit, polished yet chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Producer notes: Château Sociando‑Mallet is known for producing structured, ageworthy wines that open slowly. This 2005 displays the estate’s signature concentration and minerality, combining a robust frame with surprisingly sweet, well-integrated tannins and excellent length. Winemaking & ageing: Hand-harvested fruit arrives in small crates. Fermentation is carried out using native yeasts in temperature‑controlled stainless steel and concrete vats with regular pump‑overs to extract colour and aroma. A careful ageing regime in oak follows (around 18 months for the estate bottling), with close topping‑up to ensure gentle maturation and long-term cellaring potential. Vineyard & cellar: Under long stewardship and meticulous viticulture, the estate benefits from prime Haut‑Médoc terroir — gravelly soils with stony, mineral elements and a cool maritime influence. The cellar team emphasizes gentle handling and traditional vinification to preserve purity and structure. Ready to drink now with decanting, and will continue to develop for decades.
