Collines de L'If 2018 (750 ml)

2018 Collines de L'If

A classically styled Saint-Émilion second wine from Château l'If under the stewardship of Jacques Thienpont. On the nose this 2018 opens with ripe black cherry and plum, layered with cedar, graphite and an undercurrent of tobacco and dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied and polished: dark-fruited core, gentle vanilla and spice from careful oak ageing, and firm but refined tannins that give structure without overpowering the fruit. Bright, balanced acidity keeps the wine lively and ready to pair with richer dishes. A wine built for medium-term cellaring (Drinking window 2025–2038) that rewards an hour of decanting to let scents and flavors unfurl. Excellent with roasted or grilled red meats, game, and mature cheeses.

Winery

Château l'If is a Saint-Émilion property now associated with Jacques Thienpont, a family known for respectful, terroir-driven winemaking in Bordeaux. The estate focuses on traditional cultivation of hillside vineyards, extracting ripe, concentrated fruit while preserving freshness. Winemaking for this wine typically involves careful sorting, fermentation with temperature control, and élevage in French oak barrels to integrate spice and vanilla notes without masking the fruit. The result is a wine that balances immediate appeal with the capacity to age.
