2021 Domaine du Meix Foulot Mercurey 1er Cru Monopole Clos du Chateau De Montaigu

A poised Premier Cru from a single clos, the 2021 shows a brooding but refined bouquet of plum, dark cherry and violet, edged by spice and a mildly toasty oak note. On the palate it is medium-bodied with generous mid-palate volume and a sophisticated mouthfeel built around fine-grained tannins. Linear and chalky in profile, the wine finishes persistent and palate-coating, with a clear mineral spine. The élevage shows a measured use of oak that adds toast and spice without overwhelming the fruit. Best enjoyed after a little time in the glass or short decanting, and will reward several years in bottle as it blossoms and gains complexity.

Winery

Domaine Meix-Foulot is a respected Mercurey producer known for focused Premier Cru expressions from tightly held parcels. The domaine tends to favor traditional Burgundian methods—careful vineyard work, gentle extraction at the winery and élevage in oak that supports rather than dominates the fruit—resulting in wines that balance structure and finesse.
