2021 Domaine Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru 'Clos du Chateau' Blanc Monopole

Soul Hook: A Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru that pairs richness with mineral precision — luxe texture without losing focus.

Why choose it?
- Monopole vineyard -> singular terroir expression, consistent quality from one historic plot.
- Premier Cru pedigree -> depth and aging potential you can feel now or cellar for later enjoyment.
- Buttery yet focused style -> immediate appeal for dinner parties, with the structure to pair with richer dishes.

Sommelier's Private Notes: Yellow orchard fruits and citrus zest open first, then warm notes of toasted almond, vanilla and a gentle brioche from barrel élevage. On the palate it sits plush and rounded—creamy mid-palate, lively undercurrent of mineral tension and a saline lift that keeps the finish precise rather than heavy. This is the kind of white that plays both host and hero: comforting texture, honest minerality.

Winemaking & Vineyard: From the Clos du Chateau de la Maltroye monopole in Chassagne-Montrachet, fruit is hand-harvested and vinified with careful use of French oak. Barrel fermentation and partial new oak élevage, with periodic bâtonnage, build lees-derived creaminess while preserving natural acidity. The vineyards—well-drained limestone and clay soils on gentle slopes—deliver ripe phenolics and that hallmark Côte de Beaune mineral thread.

Occasion: Ideal for an elevated home dinner in Hong Kong—think weekend roast chicken, a Cantonese-style seafood course with buttered sauce, or a small celebration with cheese and nuts. Works as a gift for collectors who appreciate terroir clarity.

Competitive Edge: Delivers Premier Cru character and monopole rarity at a relative value to the top-tier names—a superb alternative when you want Burgundian pedigree without simply paying for a label.
