Tasting note: Deep, intense gold in the glass. The nose opens with honeyed tropical fruits — pineapple, mango and ripe pear — layered with vanilla, coconut cream and a gentle floral lift. On the palate it is creamy and rounded: toasted almonds, baked pear, subtle clove and warm spice from maturation, balanced by restrained French oak influence and a whisper of smoke. Finish is lingering with sweet almond, vanilla cream and a pleasing spice.
Producer notes: The Glenlivet were early adopters of French Limousin oak for finishing whisky, sourcing oak from the Dordogne that imparts warm spice and nutty, almond-like characters without overpowering the spirit. Only a proportion of the spirit is matured in these casks to achieve a selective, exotic depth.
Winemaking/maturing notes: This 15-year-old gains its distinctive profile through selective maturation — a measured portion rested in French oak casks (Limousin) that encourage deeper wood interaction thanks to their lower density. The team carefully times maturation to extract spice, vanilla and toasted-nut tones while preserving the distillery’s signature fruity, creamy core. Bottled at 40% ABV with a T-top cork closure.
Vineyard/distillery notes: From the heart of Speyside, The Glenlivet stands on classic spring-water and barley country. The distillery’s long heritage and cool Speyside climate lend floral and heather-honey character — think gently rolling fields of barley, clear spring feed and traditional distillation under the guidance of master distillers such as Alan Winchester. Owned by Chivas Regal, the house style remains refined and approachable.
Service suggestion: Serve neat in a tulip or Glencairn glass and allow about 15 minutes to open up; a few drops of water will coax out more tropical and floral notes. Best enjoyed slowly to appreciate the layered oak spice and nutty finish.
