Tasting note: Explosive and unapologetic, this cask-strength Highland Park opens with bright citrus — pink grapefruit and orange peel — woven into deep layers of honeyed toffee, treacle and dark chocolate. Heathery peat smoke and bonfire embers give it a bracing coastal character while exotic spices and a streak of port-driven dark fruit add complexity. Producer notes: Created under Master Distiller Gordon Motion, this no-age-statement release is built from a masterful mix of sherry-seasoned European and American oak, bourbon and refill casks, with a finishing flourish of port casks to lift fruity depth. Winemaking/maturation: Bottled at cask strength (63.3–64.3% ABV), the whisky shows concentrated, layered oak influence and full-bodied mouthfeel; a short rest in the glass (10–20 minutes) allows the aromatics to unfurl. Vineyard/distillery context: From the windswept Orkney islands, the distillery’s coastal peat and local climate impart a distinctive heather-smoke signature that merges with the richness of the matured casks. Serve neat or with a few drops of water to open aromatic range.
