A special Blue Label bottling from Johnnie Walker’s Ghost & Rare series, this Port Dundas edition brings together rare Lowlands grain spirit and hand-selected malts. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and port-seasoned casks, the whisky opens with rich notes of candied orange, stewed raisins and dark chocolate, layered over warm toffee, vanilla and toasted oak. The texture is silky with a plush mid-palate and gentle spice that leads to a long, warming finish with a whisper of smoke. Producer notes highlight the careful selection of liquid from a closed grain distillery (Port Dundas) and the marrying expertise of the master blender to retain depth and balance. Winemaking (distilling) and maturation notes: distilled grain provides a soft cereal sweetness while the use of port-seasoned casks imparts concentrated dried fruit and sweetness; marrying and finishing ensure integration of oak spice, sweetness and a rounded palate. Vineyard (field) notes: barley for the grain spirit traditionally comes from Lowlands and surrounding Scottish farms, benefitting from a maritime climate that gives a restrained, elegant grain character. This release is crafted for contemplative sipping — try neat or with a single drop of water to open aromatics.
