Tasting note: The 2019 Les Plantes opens with generous notes of ripe black fruit—blackcurrant and dark cherry—framed by cedar, graphite and a tobacco-leather seam. Savory spice and subtle oak baking spice add complexity while a mineral thread keeps the palate focused. The mid-palate is concentrated, with firm, ripe tannins and a balanced acidity that carry a long, structured finish. Producer notes: From a Margaux estate under the stewardship of Gonzague Lurton, Les Plantes aims to express the classic elegance of the property with careful selection in the cellar and a focus on site expression. Winemaking notes: Matured for approximately 18 months in a mix of oak, the wine shows judicious use of new barrels to lend structure without overwhelming the fruit. Gentle extraction during fermentation preserves primary varietal character while oak ageing adds spice and texture. Vineyard notes: The fruit comes from gravelly Margaux parcels that provide good drainage and promote concentration and finesse. Warm growing season ripened the fruit fully, producing a wine with polished tannins, clear mineral lift and the capacity to evolve over a decade.
