Liqueur De The Jossie Mate

Tasting note: Deep, inviting aromas of roasted mate tea lead, joined by burnt caramel, dark chocolate, orange peel and a thread of clove. The palate is plush and warming — rounded sweetness up front gives way to herbal bitterness and a cocoa-tinged, gently spiced mid-palate. Finishes long with a dry-leaning, bittersweet echo.

Producer notes: Crafted in France with an artisanal touch, this tea liqueur marries South American mate leaf character with classic European liqueur-making traditions. The producer blends hand-selected tea, toasted to accentuate roasted, nutty notes, with a curated mix of spices and citrus peels before marrying them to a smooth neutral spirit and a measured sweetening.

Winemaking/production: Botanicals are cold-macerated then lightly heated to extract depth without harshness; some batches see a short, controlled infusion to deepen color and round tannins. After blending, the spirit is rested to allow flavors to integrate and soften, producing a velvety texture and polished finish.

Vineyard/ingredient notes: The defining ingredient is mate tea sourced for its smoky-roasted leaf profile, complemented by citrus peels and warming spices sourced from small specialist growers. While not grape-based, attention to provenance and gentle handling mirrors vineyard-driven craft in wine-making.

Serve & pair: Best served neat or on a few minutes’ rest after opening (about 15 minutes). Try chilled in a small glass as a digestif, over a single large ice cube, or as an accent in cocktails — excellent with dark chocolate, nutty pastries and spice-forward desserts.
