The 2021 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Meal is a remarkable wine from the prestigious Hermitage appellation in the Rhone Valley. This wine showcases a deep garnet red color with purple lights in its youth. On the nose, it reveals enticing aromas of ripe fruits and smoky notes. The palate is powerful with velvety tannins and flavors of blackberry jam. This wine is crafted from Syrah grapes grown on the Méal hillside, known for its high terraces of shingles and clay. The vines are approximately 50 years old, and the grapes are hand-harvested at maturity. The winemaking process involves destemming and vinification in small cement vats, followed by high-temperature maceration to extract the grape's potential. The wine is matured in new or one-year-old casks for 14 to 18 months, with natural clarification.
