Tasting note: Deep garnet in the glass with a bouquet of licorice, tobacco, dried rose and ripe red cherry, underpinned by leather and subtle earth. On the palate it is full and elegant — generous structure, firm but refined tannins and persistent acidity that drives a long, savory finish. Producer & vineyard: Marcenasco is a historic cru in the La Morra area; the bottling has ancient roots and has been a signature of the estate since its first vintage in 1965. The wine embodies the classic balance and finesse of this zone. Winemaking & ageing: Fruit is hand‑harvested in October, destemmed and gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in temperature‑controlled stainless steel with three to four weeks of skin contact using a submerged cap system; malolactic occurs in steel. The wine is then refined for roughly two years in large oak casks (25–50 hl) followed by about one year of bottle ageing. Drinking window: historically recommended 2001–2013; bottles from good cellars will remain rewarding but may show mature tertiary notes. Serving: decant about 45 minutes to lift aromatics and integrate savory layers. Pairs well with roasted or braised red meats, game, truffle pasta and mature cheeses.
