A bold, coastal expression from Talisker’s 2022 Special Release: eleven years of maturation concentrated into a cask-strength single malt. On the nose expect an immediate hit of maritime smoke—sea spray, iodine and char—woven with warm notes of vanilla, caramel and baked orchard fruit. The palate is full-bodied and fleshy, driven by intense peat smoke and coastal minerality, then brightened by black pepper spice and a touch of citrus peel. Oak influence brings notes of toasted wood and a subtle sweetness that balances the smoke, while the finish is long, warming and salted, with lingering ash and spice. Producer notes: Distilled at Talisker on the Isle of Skye, this Special Release showcases the distillery’s hallmark smoky, peppery character amplified by careful cask selection and a robust ABV. Bottled at cask strength to preserve aromatic intensity and mouthfeel, it’s a limited release intended for contemplative sipping. Winemaking/maturation notes: Matured predominantly in seasoned oak casks, the whisky gains structure and vanilla-toffee notes from the wood while coastal warehouse conditions contribute saline, briny layers. Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open the aromatic spectrum; give it 10–15 minutes in the glass to settle and reveal its complexities.
