Tasting note: A concentrated Heathcote expression with lifted aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum layered with black pepper, dark chocolate and a hint of licorice. The palate is dense and supple — ripe dark fruit up front, savory earthy mid-palate and firm, fine-grained tannins that carry flavors of toasted spice and cedar through a long finish.
Producer notes: Crafted by Ben Perkins at Two Hands, Max's Garden aims to showcase Heathcote’s iron-rich red soils and warm continental climate. Vineyard manager Travis Coombe tends older, low-yielding vines to build concentration and balance.
Winemaking notes: Fermented with careful extraction to retain fruit purity, matured in a judicious mix of new and seasoned French oak to add spice and structure without overpowering the fruit. The result is concentrated, layered and age-worthy.
Vineyard notes: Sourced from Heathcote sites with deep red, iron-rich soils and strong diurnal temperature shifts. These conditions produce thick-skinned fruit with ripe tannins and intense flavor concentration, giving the wine its signature depth and longevity.
