2017 Two Hands Shiraz Bella's Garden Barossa

Barossa

Soul Hook: Powerful Barossa depth with polished restraint.

Why choose it?
1) Site-driven concentration -> Red/brown soils of the western ranges deliver concentrated fruit and structured tannins for long-term presence. Benefit: a wine that feels purposeful, not overworked.
2) Thoughtful oak program -> 18 months in French hogsheads (15% new) adds spice and cream without masking fruit. Benefit: spice and texture that lift food pairings.
3) Traditional, hands-on vinification -> open-top fermenters, regular pump-overs and full malolactic in barrel; bottled unfined and unfiltered. Benefit: intensity and authenticity in the glass.

Winemaker notes: Crafted by Ben Perkins from the finest Barossa barrels, fermented in 5–10 tonne open-top fermenters with 2 pump-overs daily, 7–10 days on skins, then pressed to barrel for malolactic. Aged 18 months in French oak hogsheads (15% new, remainder 1–6 years). Bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve textural detail.

Vineyard notes: Fruit comes from low-yielding red/brown earth in Barossa’s western ranges — soils that give concentrated fruit, masculine tannins and deep colour. Managed for concentration rather than volume, the vineyards reflect the rustic mineral signature of the site.

Sommelier private note: Dark berry core meets cassis, black pepper and cocoa; the oak offers warm vanilla and a touch of smoke while firm, ripe tannins carry the mid-palate. Best with grilled or slow-cooked red meat — decant at least an hour so the layers open up.

Occasion: Weekend roast beef with friends, special-date dinner with rich sauces, or a leisurely barbecue where bold flavours need an equally bold wine.

Competitive edge: Delivers Barossa power and barrel complexity at a price that sits well below top collectible bottlings — a high-impact bottle that rewards both drinking now and cellaring a few years.
