2022 Virna Montersino Barbaresco DOCG

This 2022 Montersino from Virna Borgogno is a concentrated, savory Barbaresco with a dark, complex bouquet—tar, licorice, dried cherries and a lift of ripe strawberry and pungent floral notes. On the palate it’s full-bodied and warming, showing dense yet ripe, velvety tannins wrapped around integrated acidity and a savory, meaty core with hints of citrus. Winemaking aims to balance power with elegance: careful extraction yields structured tannins while skilled oak use and attentive maturation keep fruit and aromatics vibrant. Fruit is sourced from the Montersino site, where hillside soils and a cool growing season favour concentrated flavours and clear mineral tension. Drinkable now with good aeration, it will also age—revealing greater complexity over the next several years.
