Château Léoville-Poyferré is located in the district of Saint Julien (Saint Julien). History began in 1638. Formerly known as Château Léoville, it is the largest winery in the region. However, due to the owner transform and division of land breaks into different wineries, Château Léoville Poyferré was officially start in 1840 and was rated as a second-class winery in 1855.
In 1879, grape vines began to be infected with phylloxera, followed by severe downy mildew. By now the average tree age is over 38 years. In 1979, Didier began to take incharge. Subsequently, a large number of equipment was introduced, and after the wine cellar was rebuilt in 1984, there was an underground water storage and a large number of new oak barrels added to the Château Léoville-Poyferré to improve the quality.
This vineyard is a mixture of gravel soil from the Gillen River and sand accumulated by wind, and has a relatively high proportion of old vines, making the winery full of unlimited potential.
Shiny and limpid, the color of the 2005 vintage is a dark garnet with vermeil highlights.Concentrated notes of toast and jammy black fruit emerge, followed by hints of cedar and eucalyptus that add a touch of freshness.Full and plump on the palate, the tannins still have some grip, but the texture of the wine remains silky. Retro-olfaction confirms the aromas perceived on the nose: jammy blackcurrant, delicate oak, and blonde tobacco. This exhilarating vintage offers extraordinary aromatic persistence with a fresh finish.
