Tasting note: Deep garnet with a luminous purple core. Aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry and cassis unfold into nuances of plum, dark chocolate, toasted hazelnut and gentle tobacco. On the palate the wine is medium-full, with polished, velvety tannins, energetic black fruit and a warm, spice-tinged finish. Producer notes: From the prestigious Pichon Comtesse domaine, this Reserve reflects meticulous viticulture under the ownership of May-Eliane de Lencquesaing and the estate's commitment to elegance and balance. Winemaking notes: The 2019 was vinified using a gravity-flow approach from reception to barrel. After fermentation the free-run juice was separated and the press fractions handled with precision; selected press wines were used to add structure and complexity. The wine matured 16 months in oak, delivering integrated spice and refined tannin grip. Vineyard notes: Planted on Médoc’s classic gravel rises over clay subsoils, the vineyards benefit from excellent drainage and a favourable microclimate influenced by the nearby Gironde estuary. Soils encourage concentration and a clear expression of terroir, producing wines with depth and ageing potential. Cellaring & serving: Approachable now with decanting (about 90 minutes) but built for medium-term ageing. Serve slightly below room temperature with robust red meats or aged cheeses.
