Tasting note
Tasting note: Bright, intricate and decidedly Black Forest — upfront juniper sits beside crisp citrus and a floral sweetness, while local lingonberries and a whisper of bitter almond and peppery spice round out a long, racy finish. Producer notes: Crafted from 47 handpicked botanicals, many sourced from the Schwarzwald region, and blended with extremely soft spring water from the distillery's own Black Forest source. The use of lingonberries is a signature touch that adds subtle tart-fruit depth. Winemaking/distilling notes: Distilled in small batches and matured briefly in traditional earthenware, Monkey 47 achieves exceptional complexity and balance without oak influence. The masterful maceration and pot-still distillation coax layered aromatics and a full palate. Vineyard/botanicals notes: Rather than a vineyard, the 'terroir' here is the Black Forest landscape — mossy woods, wild herbs, berries and alpine citrus peels contribute to a multi-dimensional aromatic profile. Serving suggestion: best slightly chilled or with tonic; open and rest ~10 minutes after pouring to let the botanicals bloom.
Winery
Black Forest Distillers (Monkey 47) is a boutique distillery inspired by the Schwarzwald landscape. Combining meticulous small-batch distillation with 47 locally and globally sourced botanicals, the team uses its own Black Forest spring water and traditional earthenware maturation to build complexity. The brand celebrates regional ingredients — especially lingonberries — and crafts gins that are simultaneously classic and experimental.
