Tasting note: The 2022 Chateau Talbot opens with a confident bouquet of blackcurrant, black cherry and ripe plum layered with violet florals, graphite and hints of garrigue and anise. Secondary notes of tobacco, dark chocolate and cedar unfold with aeration. On the palate it’s medium–full, energetic and finely focused: lively acidity lifts the fruit while powdery, well-knit tannins give structure without austerity, leading to a long, savory finish.
Producer & vineyard: Chateau Talbot, a 4ème Grand Cru Classé long held by the Bignon-Cordier family, works more than a century-old tradition across extensive Saint-Julien vineyards. Planted on classic Médoc gravels and well-drained slopes, the estate favours balance, precision and longevity in its wines.
Winemaking & ageing: Grapes were hand-harvested in September and vinified with fermentation in oak vats. The 2022 saw 15 months of ageing in French oak barrels, 50% of them new, producing a polished oak frame that complements rather than overwhelms the fruit. The result is a wine built for aging but generous in its youth.
Cellar & service: Decant for about 90 minutes if drinking in the near term. While approachable now for those who enjoy primary fruit and fine tannic grip, the wine is well suited to medium- to long-term cellaring and will develop further complexity over the next decades.
