Royal Salute 21YO Red (Ruby) from the 1980s/90s is a ceremonial blended Scotch built for longevity and presence. On the nose it opens with ripe dried fruits—figs, raisin and red cherry—layered over vanilla cream, toasted oak and a hint of cocoa. The palate is smooth and full-bodied: concentrated caramel, sherry‑like spice, nutty marzipan and a polite thread of peat and smoke, finishing long, warm and slightly savoury. Producer notes: Crafted under the Royal Salute label by Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard), this 21-year age‑statement blend brings together older malt and grain whiskies selected for balance and complexity. The “Red/Ruby” character often reflects maturation influence from rich European oak/sherry casks that impart deeper colour and dried‑fruit notes. Winemaking/maturation: Spirit components are matured in a mix of American oak and European sherry casks, allowing concentrated fruit and spice development over two decades. The blending stage harmonises varying casks to achieve a rounded, layered profile while preserving an elegant, long finish. Vineyard/production notes: Though not a wine, the raw materials trace back to barley grown in cool Scottish regions and pure spring water sources; malt profiles span Speyside and Highland styles with carefully selected grain whiskies adding silk and weight. This bottle is best given 10–20 minutes in an open glass to let aromas bloom.
