Winery & Winemaking Notes:
Produced by Chateau Phelan Segur under the Gardinier family, this 2003 was managed by Luc Peyronnet with Alain Coculet as winemaker. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats and 500‑litre barrels, followed by 14 months of barrel ageing. The result is a wine that shows mature integration of oak, with powdery, sumptuous tannins and a deep, smoky core.

Vineyard Notes & Vintage Context:
From a 70‑ha estate with average vine age around 35 years and high density planting, the 2003 growing season was exceptionally hot and dry — low yields, high sugar ripeness and concentrated phenolics. The finished wine is dark, dense and mineral-tinged, reflecting the estate’s gravel soils and classic Saint-Estèphe structure.

Sommelier's Private Note:
On the palate you’ll find ripe black fruits framed by tobacco and cigar-box spice, firm but polished tannins and a long, warm finish. Decant for 30–60 minutes to reveal secondary spice and cedar notes. Ideal companion for a charcoal-grilled ribeye or a rich lamb shoulder.
