Tasting Note: This 1997 vintage from Delord presents an elegant, powerful nose of caramelised citrus — think candied orange and crystallised mandarin — layered with dried fruit (dates) and warm baking spice. On the palate it shows a silky, full body supported by toasted oak and vanilla, finishing long and racy with a refined sense of balance. Producer & Vintage: Delord’s story began in 1893 with a travelling distiller; today the house remains family-run in Lannepax. The 1997 base wines were handled with careful temperature control, settling and racking to achieve a slightly higher acidity and aromatic lift ideal for distillation. Distillation occurs in winter using both continuous and double methods, then the eaux-de-vie mature in a combination of oak barrels and tanks. Winemaking & Ageing: The spirit is aged in Delord’s historic cellars—over a thousand barrels and several oak tanks—while the oldest vintages are kept in glass bonbonnes away from light. The result is a layered Armagnac where oak influence adds spice and creaminess without overpowering the aromatic core. Vineyard Notes: Fruit comes from Delord’s 45-hectare estate around Lannepax, worked year-round with attention to parcel expression and vine health. The careful vineyard management and separate vinification steps create the bright, aromatic base essential for Delord’s signature style. Service: Best enjoyed after 15–30 minutes in the glass to open aromas. Serve neat in a tulip or brandy snifter at room temperature.

Delord is a long-established family producer from Lannepax with roots back to 1893. Originating from traveling distiller Prosper Delord, the house blends tradition and meticulous cellar practice: separate parcel vinification, temperature-controlled handling of base wines, and the use of both continuous and double distillation. Their cellars hold more than a thousand barrels and several oak tanks; the oldest eaux-de-vie are preserved in glass bonbonnes in a room they call Paradise.
