1989 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste

A classic Fifth Growth Pauillac showing graceful maturity. The nose unfolds cedar, tobacco and ripe cassis with underlying graphite and stony minerality from the deep coarse gravel soils. On the palate it is medium-weight but concentrated—structured and savory, with silky, now-softening tannins and lively, elegant acidity. Winemaking follows estate tradition: hand-harvested fruit, two selections before and after de-stemming, a long maceration of about three weeks and ageing in French oak (approximately 75% new) for 16–18 months. The vineyard’s average vine age (c. 38 years) and very deep gravel terroir give fine concentration and a refined mineral spine. Best enjoyed after a short decant to round the edges; pairs beautifully with roasted and grilled red meats or mature cheeses.
