Tasting note
Tasting Note: Bright crimson core with garnet edges. Aromas of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry and a hint of sous-bois evolve to reveal forest floor, dried mushroom and warm spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied, energetic and layered — juicy fruit framed by fine, silky tannins and a clear mineral thread that carries through to a poised, persistent finish.
Producer Notes: From the monopole Clos du Château de la Maltroye — a single-owner, walled premier cru plot in Chassagne-Montrachet — this rouge exemplifies the estate’s attention to site and balance. The château has a long history on these slopes, producing wines that combine Burgundian finesse with muscular terroir expression.
Winemaking: Gentle extraction and patient élevage in oak barrels (partially renewed) preserve the wine’s freshness while adding subtle spice and vanilla complexity. Fermentation aims to keep fruit purity and structure; maturation provides integration without dominating the core fruit.
Vineyard: Premier Cru exposure on limestone-rich soils gives pronounced minerality and tension. Low yields and careful canopy management encourage full phenolic ripeness while retaining acidity, resulting in a red with nerve, finesse and ageing potential.
