2020 Dominus Estate

Soul Hook: A majestic Napa expression — power and precision from an estate that speaks of place.

Why choose it?
1) Estate provenance -> Single-vineyard focus (Napanook) gives a pure, traceable expression you can trust.
2) Refined structure -> Polished tannins and vertical acidity deliver long ageing potential and immediate presence.
3) Thoughtful oak -> 20% new barrels add spice and frame without overwhelming the fruit.

Sommelier's Notes: On the nose blackcurrant and black cherry meet graphite and damp earth; hints of lavender and sandalwood add lift. The palate is powerful yet sculpted — firm, chalky tannins and deep, layered dark-fruit flavours resolve into bittersweet chocolate and hazelnut on a long, precise finish. Best approached with patience: decant for an hour or two if drinking now.

Winemaking & Vineyard: Hand-sorted fruit from the estate Napanook vineyard; minimalist, detail-driven winemaking with optical sorting, gentle pump-overs and barrel-to-barrel racking using the esquive. A restrained use of new oak (20%) preserves site clarity while giving structure.

Occasion / Pairing: Weekend roast at home, celebratory steak dinner, or a reserved bottle for a milestone — pairs superbly with grilled T-bone, venison or aged cheeses.

Competitive Edge: Estate-bottled rarity with Bordeaux-blend pedigree yet Napa power — offers comparable structure and ageing potential to top-tier names but represents a concentrated sense of place and excellent value relative to the megabrands.

Winery

Dominus Estate — Founded and led by Christian Moueix, Dominus farms the famed Napanook vineyard and focuses on estate-driven, terroir-expressive wines. Winemaking is meticulous but minimalist: thorough hand sorting, optical berry selection, gentle extractions, and regular barrel-to-barrel racking using the esquive. The result is a powerful, precise wine that reflects site purity.
