Tasting note: Deep, refined and intensely layered, the 2022 Chateau Lafite Rothschild opens with concentrated blackcurrant and plum, bright red-berry lift and violets, then unfurls graphite, cigar-box cedar and subtle orange zest. The palate marries silky, very fine-grained tannins with a taut mineral spine and refreshing lift, offering tremendous length and an elegant, persistent finish. Producer notes: From a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, Lafite’s 112 hectares sit on deep fine gravel over limestone, producing wines of clarity and longevity. The 2022 Grand Vin was assembled from carefully selected lots; a smaller portion of the harvest made the final blend. Winemaking notes: Fermented and matured in French oak for approximately 19 months, the 2022 benefits from meticulous oak integration and élevage. Reported details include low yields (about 35 hl/ha for Grand Vin parcels) and a notable proportion of press-wine in the blend for this vintage, contributing structure and concentration. Vineyard notes: The vineyards span the château slopes, the Carruades plateau and a small Saint-Estèphe parcel. Soils of fine deep gravel with windblown sand over a well-drained limestone subsoil deliver ripe phenolics and pronounced minerality.
