Tasting Note: Deep, lustrous purple in the glass, this 2021 shows an intense yet refined aromatic profile — ripe blackcurrant and blackberry layered with floral violet and discreet notes of spice, cedar and tobacco. On the palate it opens with a succulent, plush attack that quickly reveals a poised, fresh core. Juicy black cherry and cassis flavours sit within a framework of precise, patrician tannins and an elegant mineral thread that carries the wine to a long, lingering finish. Producer & Winemaking Notes: Crafted under the direction of Philippe Dhalluin and the Rothschild family team, the 2021 was harvested late September to early October and matured for 18 months in French oak. The winemaking emphasizes balance and purity: careful selection, classical vinification and well-integrated oak that frames rather than overwhelms the fruit. Vineyard Notes: The estate sits on the Plateau de Mouton rising to 27m above sea level, planted on very deep gravelly soils with high vine density and an average vine age around 44 years. These conditions lend structure, lift and a distinct mineral spine to the wine, while attentive viticulture and relatively late picking in 2021 preserved freshness and aromatic nuance. Cellaring & Service: Classified 1er Grand Cru Classé, this wine will reward medium- to long-term cellaring (drinking window from the mid/late 2020s into the 2050s). For near-term drinking, decant about 90 minutes to let the layers open. Serve at cellar-cool room temperature with robust red meat or mature cheeses.
