A distinguished Napa icon from the famed Oakville corridor, this 2009 Opus One opens with layered aromas of black olive, orange peel, espresso and dark chocolate, followed by ripe blueberry, cassis and a graphite-like minerality. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, shaped by 20 days of skin contact and 17 months in new French oak, offering polished, fine-grained tannins that give structure without overpowering the fruit. Estate fruit is hand-harvested from four western Oakville parcels (including holdings within To Kalon) and vinified with a traditional-meets-modern approach. Drink now with generous decanting or cellar through the drinking window; ageworthy, with a smooth yet slightly gripping close and a long, mineral-tinged finish.
