Tasting note: Krug Grande Cuvée 173ème Édition opens with a bright golden hue and an intensely layered bouquet: toasted brioche, lemon curd and confit citrus, yellow stone fruit and a hint of crème brûlée. On the palate it offers a creamy mousse and generous, full-bodied texture with chalky-saline minerality and finely judged structure from subtle tannic support. Flavors of almond paste, hazelnut and light caramel mingle with delicate toasty and nutty notes, ending in a long, radiant finish.

Producer notes: Maison Krug assembles this multi-vintage Grande Cuvée from a palette of reserve wines and recent vintages, expressing the house’s signature of depth, precision and generosity. The 173ème Édition is built around the 2017 base harvest together with older reserve wines reaching back to 2001, creating richness, complexity and harmonic balance.

Winemaking: Crafted by traditional method with extended lees ageing, fermentation includes components matured in oak to lend structure and spice. The dosage is Brut, and meticulous blending produces the wine’s layered autolytic character—fine yeast-derived creaminess balanced by bright citrus lift and saline drive.

Vineyard notes: Grapes are sourced across Champagne’s chalky sites, where cool climate and mineral soils contribute to crisp acidity and a distinctive saline minerality. The selection of reserve wines from older vintages adds glyceric texture and aromatic depth, while each parcel’s individuality is preserved in the final blend.

Service & pairing: Serve well chilled and allow 20–30 minutes after opening for the aromatics to broaden. Lovely with oysters, lobster or richer shellfish preparations, as well as refined canapés, creamy poultry dishes and premium cheeses.
