2012 Domaine Nicolas Rossignol Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Fichots

Tasting note: On the nose this Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru opens with bright red cherry and raspberry notes layered over damp forest floor, dried herbs and a faint cedary spice. The palate is medium-bodied and finely textured—silky tannins frame fresh acidity and savoury mushroom-mineral notes, finishing with a lingering brush of tobacco and subtle oak spice.

Producer notes: Domaine Nicolas Rossignol is a small family domaine in Pernand-Vergelesses focused on faithful expressions of its climats. Their Les Fichots bottling shows site clarity and a restrained, classical approach—aiming for balance rather than overt power.

Winemaking notes: Grapes are hand-harvested, gently vinified with careful extraction to preserve aromatic lift and finesse. Fermentation and élevage are traditionally managed in Burgundian oak barrels; the wine sees maturation in French oak (including a proportion of newer barrels) to integrate structure and spice while keeping the fruit pure.

Vineyard notes: Les Fichots sits on well-drained, stony soils that bring minerality and coolness to the fruit. Low yields and attentive canopy work encourage concentration and ripeness at moderate sugar levels, producing wines that age gracefully yet remain approachable when decanted.
