Tasting note: The 2021 Monvigliero opens with an elegant floral bouquet of violets and rose petal, then unfurls layers of red currant, dried cherry and raspberry framed by licorice, cinnamon and a citrus-tinged cedar. A smooth, polished attack gives way to velvety, refreshing tannins and a medium–full body; the finish carries subtle toasty, slightly chocolaty notes with lingering spice. Producer notes: From Gianni Gagliardo’s single-vineyard Monvigliero bottling, this wine reflects a careful balance between tradition and precision. The estate focuses on capturing site character and aromatic finesse. Winemaking notes: Fermented with attentive extraction and extended maceration to develop structure, the wine is matured in a combination of ageing vessels to build complexity and a gentle toast profile without overwhelming the fruit. Careful racking and time in bottle harmonize tannin and acidity. Vineyard notes: Monvigliero is a celebrated cru, planted on hillside soils of calcareous marl and well-draining earth. Low yields, hand-harvest and thoughtful canopy management help concentrate flavours and highlight the vineyard’s floral lift and mineral spine.
