The palate opens to bright red fruit, crushed raspberry and savory undergrowth notes, framed by fresh acidity and silky, well-defined tannins. Producer notes & vintage: From Michele Chiarlo’s Tortoniano selection, this 2018 benefited from abundant late-winter rains, a hot summer and cool September nights that produced balanced, elegant aromas after a summer thinning of 30–35%. Vineyard notes: Vines sit on Tortonian-calcareous marl clay (sedimentary marine origin, ~9 million years old) with about 12% active limestone and notable magnesium and manganese microelements, contributing mineral drive and structure. Winemaking & ageing: Grapes were hand-harvested and vinified in stainless steel with 17–18 days maceration; a gentle cap-wetting “shower” system kept fermentation temperatures between 32–27°C. Malolactic fermentation occurred in steel. Wines see a minimum of three years’ maturation, typically about 24 months in average-sized oak casks before bottle refinement. Serving: Best decanted for about an hour and served at 16–18°C. Ready to enjoy now but will develop further through the 2030s.
