Chateau Sociando-Mallet has long been revered by collectors as the greatest unclassified growth in Bordeaux, often outperforming Cru Classe estates in blind tastings. Benefiting from deep gravel terraces overlooking the Gironde estuary, this 1996 vintage captures the legendary power and longevity of an exceptional left bank year. Aged meticulously in high proportions of new oak, it opens with a dramatic bouquet of cassis liqueur, dark chocolate, graphite, and cedarwood. On the palate, the once formidable tannins have seamlessly integrated into a velvety, dense texture underpinned by classic Medoc minerality and a persistent, layered finish.
